About

I have enjoyed various art forms since childhood, but painting has been my passion. Following the art history tradition of mentorship, I have learned the basics from many nationally known artists. Years of study and painting en plein air have enhanced my observations and understanding of color refraction and how it interacts with the environment under varying conditions. Over time my individual style has begun to emerge, one that has been characterized by vivid color and the interplay of light and shadow

I began painting professionally in 1984 in watercolor and upon reaching a certain level of proficiency I was encouraged to try a new medium and began to paint in oils in 1994. This is a medium that I currently enjoy exclusively. Recently I have been using the palette knife in combination with the brush to create a more buttery texture that I feel enhances the color effect. Throughout my career I have been drawn to the islands of Maine and the Bahamas in pursuit of that unique quality of light.
