Pam Johnson has enjoyed various art forms since childhood, but painting has been her passion. Following the art history tradition of mentorship, she learned the basics from many nationally known artists. After years of study and painting on location she has enhanced and developed her own individual style, one that is characterized by vivid color and the interplay of light and shadow. Pam began painting professionally in 1984 in watercolor and upon reaching a certain level of proficiency she decided to try a new medium and began to paint in oils in 1994. More recently she has been using the palette knife in combination with the brush to create a more buttery texture that enhances the color affect. She is inspired by the atmospheric affects of color on form and is compelled to render a scene and transform it into her own unique perspective. Throughout her career she has traveled to the islands of Maine and the Bahamas in pursuit of that unique quality of light. Her objective is to share that part of her world, which so greatly influences her life.
Judges in competitive and non-juried shows throughout New England have recognized her abilities, and private and corporate collectors have purchased her work.
Current memberships include the Copley Society of Boston, and the New England Watercolor Society.
